About Out of Curiosity
Out of Curiosity is Jamie Penner’s first album, created and released as a personal experiment to see whether he could take a full instrumental project from idea to finished record.
Performed and produced entirely by Penner, the seven-track album moves through melodic rock, reflective guitar pieces, and more spacious instrumental passages. Its title reflects the reason the album exists at all: curiosity about whether the process of writing, recording, producing, and releasing an album could be done independently.
The record also includes several deeply personal pieces. “Autumn Rose” was written for Penner’s granddaughter, while “Last Train to Devon” was composed in honour of his father-in-law. “Relativity,” written by Lincoln Brewster, was Penner’s first-ever recording and closes the album as a direct link to the beginning of his recording journey. The album opens with Penner’s interpretation of “Telstar,” the Joe Meek composition made famous by The Tornados.
Released in 2020, Out of Curiosity documents the starting point of Jamie Penner’s catalogue: a fully self-produced instrumental record shaped by melody, experimentation, family, and the simple decision to find out what might happen.
